September General Meeting

Thursday, September 7, 2017

Hello neighbors,

We hope you will join us for our September General Meeting on Monday, September 11 at Grace Church Van Vorst (Erie and Second Streets) starting at 7:30 PM. As the days get a little cooler and the nights gets a little longer, we are looking forward to a busy fall season.

Maureen Crawley from the Embankment Preservation Coalition will give us an update on the recommendation made by the New Jersey State Historic Preservation Office on July 14 and the Coalition’s next steps. The Sixth Street Embankment is an important structure on the northern border of our neighborhood and changes made will directly impact us in Harsimus Cove.

We’d like to thank our Social Committee for co-organizing the BBQ with our friends from the Laurel Court and Saddlewood Block Association last month. It was a lot of fun, a nice way to meet our fellow neighbors, and the lechon was delicious!

Upcoming Events

On Wednesday, October 4, join Safe Streets JC and Bike JC for a discussion with the Mayoral candidates about Transportation & Traffic Safety in Jersey City. The JC Mayoral Streets Forum will be held from 7 to 9 PM at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. School (886 Bergen Avenue, near Journal Square). Mayor Steven Fulop and challenger Bill Matsikoudis will be asked about their visions to make the city safer and more accessible to all citizens across all modes of transit, including pedestrians, bicycles, motor vehicles and public transit. Doors open at 6:45 PM and the forum starts at 7 PM. RSVP here and submit your questions for the forum.

The Jersey City mayoral and council elections are scheduled for Tuesday, November 7. The Downtown Coalition of Neighborhood Associations (DCNA) will be hosting two debates at Frank R. Conwell School (111 Bright Street)

  • Ward E Council Debate on October 16 at 7 PM
  • Mayoral Debate on October 18 at 7 PM

If you would like to submit questions to the candidates for either debate, please email them to us at

The Jersey City property revaluation continues through the fall. Expect to see information and instructions in your mail later in the year. Information about the reval, including progress and the process, can be found here.

And finally, know we’re just about done with the summer, but it’s never too early to start thinking about...the Holidays! The DCNA will be hosting its annual Holiday Party on Saturday, December 9 at Barrow Mansion. Please save the date and stay tuned for details later in the year.

That’s all for now. See you on Monday.
