6 easy ways to pitch in

Monday, April 30, 2018

Good morning! On this beautiful Saturday in April, consider these 6 ways to support Harsimus Cove & the Jersey City community

1. Head outside & join the Great Jersey Clean-Up

No plans yet today? Head to Downtown's Enos Park (237 Brunswick) between 10am and 2pm, look for the volunteer tent, and join today's 3rd annual Great Jersey City Clean-up! This annual event encourages residents to beautify parks and streets.

2. Share your thoughts on the Pedestrian Plaza expansion

This week, Mayor Fulop tweeted proposed plans for expanding the Pedestrian Plaza. Seehere. There are pros and cons for our neighborhood. The City has assured HCA that we will have a part in the final decision. Reply to this email with any kudos or concerns regarding the City's plan, and we will be sharing them with the decision-makers.

3. Sign this petition for Hudson County representation at Port Authority

Harsimus Cove is home to the Grove Street Path Station, and many of us climb into the crowded PATH trains every morning and evening. Following the resignation of Port Authority Commissioner Caren Turner this week, it's time to renew the call for Hudson representation at the Port. Essex, Mercer, Middlesex, and Union counties have representation on the board right now, but no Hudson resident sits on this major agency's board and has our backs. Governor Murphy must fill this vacancy with a Hudson County resident. You can read more about this lack of representation from what I've written before here, and then please sign this petition and share with your neighbors: https://petitions.moveon.org/p/N_83W

4. Join a Committee

A neighbor posted in the Facebook group this week about our amazing HCA sidewalk sale last year and his hope that there would be another this year. Two neighbors responded with interest in joining the Social Committee and organizing! Are you interested in helping? If so, then reply. We are also seeking new members for Safe Street Committee(Steven Spinello is our new chair and needs new members) andConstruction/Development Committee (this year Jacob Szymala, Ned Delaney, and Ted Lavin have lent hands and we need more folks to help out; the more members we have, the greater say we have in development in Harsimus Cove). Please reply if interested.

5. Tag HCA on Instagram

Every season is beautiful in Harsimus Cove, but spring took a long time to get here; help us capture spring in Harsimus Cove on Instagram. With your neighborhood pictures, hashtag us at #harsimuscove and tag us at @harscoveassoc

And last but not least....
6. Come to the May Meeting

Our May meeting is Monday, May 14th at 7:30PM at Grave Church Van Vorst. Tentative agenda includes a brief presentation from Councilman James Solomon on the City's proposed budget and a brief presentation from the KRE Group's landscape architect for the pending project at 351 Marin Boulevard (more specificially: the project's proposed community space; see below). Please join us!

In the mean time, have a great weekend!
