As we head into fall, we need to start thinking about board elections in November. Do you have an interested in serving as as board member? Come to the meeting to learn more about the process as well as the roles and responsibilities of the open positions on the board.
Our guest speaker this month is William 'BJ' Schulte, Vice Chair on the Jersey City Environmental Commission. In addition to serving on the commission, BJ is a staff attorney at the Eastern Environmental Law Center (EELC) and represented NO Gas Pipeline until recently, helping them file for intervenor status in the fight against the Spectra pipeline. He will discuss the Environmental Commission's mission, their initiatives both past and present and take any questions that you may have.
The 3rd annual Halloween "Afternoon of Fright" block party will be held on Sunday, October 28, and will feature activities for the kids. More details to come. At this point the organizing committee is looking for volunteers, especially those who can lend a hand the day of the event. If you are interested in getting involved, come to the meeting for more information and/or send an email to Leda Duiff, our board member heading up the effort.
The rest of the agenda:
- Traffic calming: Our ongoing initiative is moving forward and a meeting is scheduled with the City to discuss speeding and parking issues. Also, be sure you complete the Jersey City Complete Streets Alliance survey!
- 5th Street gunpoint robbery: No update from JCPD as of this moment, but hoping that we have something to report Monday night.
- NO Gas Pipeline update: See their website for details on the very important gala and art show next weekend.
- Embankment Preservation Coalition update: An update on progress and announcement of their benefit concert on October 14, 4-6 PM.
- Graffiti audit: A comprehensive survey of graffiti in sidewalks Cove was conducted a week ago and the report is being prepared this weekend.
- Manila sidwalk: We will report on our progress in getting this dangerous sidewalk between 1st and 2nd on the east side repaired or replaced.
- Litter Patrol: We will announce the next patrol route.
- Barcade door prize! That's reason enough to attend the meeting!
